What’s new in Radiant Arc:
This article deals with the various concepts of what is referred to as a ‘Darksided’ universe.
When one talks of ‘Darkside’ these days, one either is talking about things like an essentialist worldview instead of a naturalist one, or one is accusing ancient Greek or medieval or neo-pagan philosophy of the act of writing a way of thinking about the universe that is terrible, then accusing many modern atheists and rationalists of being things like that (like the Orphic mysteries, for example). One of these things are cruel, egomaniacal psychopathic zombies. I agree that there could be such psychopaths. I believe that psychopaths can be a very real and a very dangerous problem in modern society. But no, I don’t think that modern philosophy is an inherently ‘Darksided’ thing. I don’t think it is fundamentally inherently evil.
I have written before on the history of philosophy, in posts like Philosophy of Logic, Naturalism, and the Sublunary. This post is going to be about the history of philosophy. It is going to be that philosophy is the ensemble of questions you ask, and the answers to those questions.
To kick the portion of the notebook that I will be using for this off to the side: I am going to assume that the reader is familiar with this sort of thing.
The History of Philosophy
The thing is, I’m a big ol’ classical dude. This means that I’m very used to thinking about philosophy in terms of something. We used to have this idea of an Orphic mystery (nowadays it seems people call it a set of ‘allegorical’ or ‘mythical’ statements). What they did was they would say, e.g., that the world is founded on two principles: the principle of the unconditioned and the principle of the conditioned. Then they would say, and I’m quoting here, that the unconditioned is just a fancy name for the “infinitely perfect, unmoved Moira, and the origin of all things, which is absolutely sovereign and without cause. The causeless is the origin of all things, by which ‘eternal necessity;’ and there is no future state, but everything has a beginning by it.” And then they would go on and say something like,

Valve has announced that it will release the SteamVR Demo at Gamescom 2016, but that it will be a little more limited than normal. The experience will be available through the “Experimental” tab in SteamVR, so not all of the features will be there, and those that are won’t be completely functional. To access this, users will have to download a modified Steam client from a third-party site called VRTech.
These features include controllers with a TGP-based gesture system
