Description:

Imam Nawawi (French: Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi (Arabic: ); 28 May 1525 – 10 February 1592) was a saintly 9th century Sunni Muslim scholar and imam of the Dawoodi Bohra sect of the Shias, mainly in the Arab world, he is said to have memorized over 5000 hadith.

He is a well-known exegete and author of many works. His outstanding works on hadith and kalam are the two-volume Al-Bukhari and the Kutub al-Sittah, the latter being considered the standard edition of the latter.

He was a cleric well known for memorizing hadiths, having memorized 6000 during his lifetime. He is referred to by many as the “Angel of the Quran”. A Companion of the Prophet in Medina, he moved to Madinah after the death of the Prophet and stayed there until his death.

He was the author of a total of 32 books, including Abi l-Qasim al-Baghdadi (often mistakenly attributed to he), and Fatan al-Duri, among many others. Nawawi is credited with the first major edition of al-Bukhari, as well as an edition of Sahih Bukhari.

In the hadith collection, al-Adhkar (literally: the Invocations), he collected a total of twelve hundred and forty one hadith, of which only one hundred and thirty nine were recorded for the first time. Another hadith collection, Al-Bidayah wa-Nihayah, was attributed to Abul Hasan Ali.

Nawawi was also highly esteemed for his exegesis of the Quran, in which he presents the lessons of the Quran in the light of the Qutb.

These works were highly influential in the Middle East and the wider Muslim world, being widely used by other Muslim scholars, both Sunni and Shi’a, as well as a number of Christians, Jews, and non-Muslims. The hadith al-Adhkar al-Tibyan, translated into English as “The Book of Remembrances”, is an exegetical work dealing with the virtues of the Prophet, is considered to be the definitive collection of Ibn Ghani’s hadith on the qualities of the Prophet and other virtues.

This is a quick intro. of Imam Nawawi, Sheikh of knowledge. More specifically I am showing some videos of the lectures he gave in his life time. Im truly inspired and excited about these lectures. The reality of Islam is preached through his lectures. He opened my eyes and heart to a new thought on Islam and provided me with a way to comprehend the teachings of Islam. It will be a lesson to our youth but primarily the youth who are at the brink of finding out Islam.

Riyad ul-Salikin is the book of prayers (du’a’s) and praises (praises) (mushaf aadar al-tawrah). Imam Nawawi said, “I have a book in Arabic which I have called “Riyad ul-Salikin” that is full of du’a’s and praise’s, but it is not in Arabic.

Du’a’s and praise’s (mashah’is) are generally not accepted as hadiths that we rely on, for they depend on saying for their acceptance. However, in the present day, many compilers have put together (logical) narrations and other sound hadith that may not be recognized, but which is the basis for whatever they are attempting to write. The author of this book did not do this.
